Smart Evolution 2.0 Maxiwide is the latest premium progressive lens manufactured by Swisscoat. It provides you with improved binocular vision, and wider intermediate and near reading areas by incorporating three latest lens design technology: 1) Binocular Balance, 2) Hormonizer, and 3) Instant Focus. This blog entry will mainly talk about how the Binocular Balance Technology works.
Binocular Balance Technology:
When a person is looking at a near object, the eyes converge (turn in) to maintain focus and avoid seeing double images. Most progressive lenses are optimised with consideration of such natural convergence of the eyes. By such optimisation, wearer’s vision can be improved as this increases the field of vision. However, the shortcoming is this will generate an unbalanced distribution of astigmatism between the temporal side (the side near the ear) and nasal side (the side near the nose) of the lens, with higher amount of astigmatism at the nasal side. This imbalance causes different levels of blurriness in each eye when looking through the left or right lens periphery, and makes it harder for the brain to merge the image from each eye to form one single image, which implies that the optimal binocular vision is reduced.
The Binocular Balance Technology allows us to balance the level of astigmatism on both sides of the lens, making the blurriness perceived by each eye as similar and minimal as possible. This improves binocular vision, and provides the user with greater visual fields especially in intermediate and near vision.
